Abstract

This research examines the social construction of the Siwaluh Jabu traditional house as religious harmony in Karo district. Religious harmony in Karo society focuses on how the values of togetherness, tolerance, and mutual respect are applied in daily life that have been formed while living in Siwaluh Jabu. The construction of Siwaluh jabu houses is done by gotong royong, which plays an important role in creating tolerance and good cooperationbetween community members thus creating harmony and inter-religious harmony. This research adopts a qualitative approach by utilizing observation and in-depth interviews to collect data from various members of the Karo community. The results show that the condition of harmony in the Siwaluh Jabu house is the result of daily practices that are familiarized in the Siwaluh Jabu house such as nimai bibi ras bengkila, cikurak, kerin and erkampuh. This research concludes that the daily life in the Siwaluh Jabu house and the combination of cultural values that prioritize tolerance and cooperation are the main foundations in creating a harmonious and peaceful society despite religious diversity.
