Abstract
The purpose of this research is to analyze and describe the procession of the Karangmelok Rokat Desa tradition and identify the symbolic meaning of the Karangmelok Rokat Desa tradition. This research uses qualitative research methods. The results of this study show that the procession of the Karangmelok Rokat Desa tradition begins with taking a lump of land from the four cardinal directions that border Karangmelok village then residents prepare sasanding to be taken with the land that has been taken to the Karangmelok Village Hall. Then the next event is praying in the village hall led by traditional or religious leaders and placing the land in a barn in the village hall. After laying the soil, the prepared sasanding is also placed in four springs. In the evening, the recitation of macapat songs begins after isya' and ends at midnight. The next day, the community is then led to the village hall and continued with the cockfighting and the release of songbirds. The meaning of the Karangmelok Rokat Desa tradition can be seen from two sides. This ritual has a religious and philosophical point of view as a thanksgiving to God Almighty. While the social meaning of the Karangmelok Rokat Desa tradition is as a community party and an adhesive for the harmony of Karangmelok villagers.
