The Role of Women in Environmental Conservation
Ecofeminism and Insights from the Quran
Abstract
The women's movement plays a crucial role in environmental conservation efforts, particularly through the perspective of ecofeminism, which connects environmental issues with gender justice. This article discusses the importance of women's involvement in protecting ecosystems, combating the exploitation of natural resources, and creating sustainable community-based solutions. Through an ecofeminist approach, this study highlights that women are often the primary victims of environmental degradation. However, on the other hand, they possess local knowledge and traditional skills that can be key to addressing environmental crises. The study also emphasizes the significance of empowering women in environmental decision-making processes, both at local and global levels, to create a more inclusive and sustainable system in the perspective of the Qur'an. The research method employed is a descriptive-analytical method with a library research approach, and the data will be analyzed using the mauḍūʿī (thematic) method. In conclusion, the Qur'an provides inspiration and solutions to environmental damage, aligning with the fundamental principles of ecofeminism. The women's movement in environmental conservation is not only essential for the preservation of nature but also for fostering greater social and gender justice.
