Analysis of Social Relationships of Orphanage Children Through a Sociometric Approach
Analisis Hubungan Sosial Anak Panti Asuhan Melalui Pendekatan Sosiometri
Abstract
This study aims to analyze the structure of social relations of foster children at the Sri Mujinab Child Care Social Institution (PSPA) in Riau Province using a sociometric approach. The research is motivated by the importance of understanding the dynamics of social interactions of foster children in a residential care environment as part of the process of self-adjustment and the formation of social solidarity. The study uses a quantitative approach through the descriptive sociometric method. The study population consisted of 43 foster children with a total sampling technique. Data collection was carried out through a sociometric questionnaire. Data analysis was carried out by analyzing the results of the sociometric index and the results of the sociogram regarding the position of children in the structure of the orphanage group. The results show that the social relations of foster children form several social positions, namely star, isolate, mutual pair, and clique. Children who actively interact and have good communication skills tend to receive higher social acceptance than children who are less active or experience difficulties in social adaptation. This study concludes that the sociometric approach is effective for mapping the dynamics of children's social relations in the orphanage environment and can be a basis for developing social development programs, group counseling, and strengthening peer support to improve the social integration of foster children.
