Tradisi Rebo Wekasan: Resepsi Tekstual Kitab Kanjun Najah dan Fathul Malik Al-Majid di Kampung Margaluyu, Lebak, Banten
Abstract
The Rebo Wekasan tradition is a socioreligious phenomenon rich in dialectics between normative Islam and local cultural expressions in the Indonesian archipelago. This study aims to analyze the form of textual reception of the Muslim community in Kampung Margaluyu, Luwihidamar, Lebak Regency, Banten, regarding the classical Islamic texts Kanjun Najah was-Surur by Syaikh Abdul Hamid bin Muhammad Al-Qudsi and Fathul Malik al-Majid by Syaikh Muhammad Haki al-Nazili, and to uncover how this religious transmission strengthens the identity and social cohesion of a convert community in the Baduy indigenous borderlands. Kampung Margaluyu possesses a unique sociological character, as its population primarily converted to Islam (mualaf) in 1998, and it is geographically adjacent to the Baduy indigenous enclave in South Banten. Utilizing qualitative methods with a living Islam and reception theory approach, this study reveals that the textual reception of the community manifests in three integrated forms of religious practice: reciting Surah Yasin three times after Maghrib prayer, performing a four-rak'ah Tolak Bala (averting misfortune) prayer on the morning of the last Wednesday of Safar, and distributing ketupat (rice cakes) as social charity. Unlike the Rebo Wekasan traditions in other regions that are often entangled with supernatural taboos, the Margaluyu community has demythologized these magical restrictions, strictly converting them into normative acts of worship and social philanthropy (sedekah). The findings demonstrate that the transmission of classical Islamic texts (kitab kuning) in indigenous borderlands can foster a purified Islamization process free from magical syncretism, while simultaneously enhancing the social cohesion of a convert community through collective charity.
