Interpreting Religious Values in the Lewak Tapo Ritual

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out the religious values in the Lewak tapo ritual in Kolimasang village. The method used in this study is a type of qualitative research with a descriptive approach. The results of the study show that the religious values contained in the Lewak tapo ritual include: first, the Lewak tapo ritual contains the value of belief, because it contains the meaning of asking for smoothness and respect for the highest form and ancestors; second, the value of reconciliation to restore the harmonious relationship between the spirits of ancestors and the families who are still alive, both with God and fellow humans; Third, the value of safety, namely through the Lewak tapo ritual provides safety and tranquility for the deceased and the surviving family to be freed from all mistakes that have been made, and to be freed from the threat of tragic death; Fourth, the niai of morality which includes family and social relationships which gives the meaning of solidarity, solidarity, and mutual cooperation and justice. The practice of Lewak tapo ritual not only has a depth of vertical relationship between a person or a group of people and God, but also has an impact on both the horizontal relationship of a person and the community with fellow humans.
