Konsep Keselamatan Dalam Kepercayaan Marapu Dan Relevansinya Dengan Iman Katolik
The Concept of Safety in the Marapu Belief System and Its Relevance to the Catholic Faith
Abstract
This study aims to explore and understand the meaning of Marapu beliefs in the lives of the Ramadana Village community, as well as its relationship with the Catholic faith. The method used is qualitative-descriptive with observation and interview techniques with key informants from Marapu and Catholic communities. The results of the study show that Marapu is understood as the Supreme Being or God the creator of heaven and earth, who is not named because he is considered sacred. The role of Ancestors as intermediaries for prayer is a characteristic of Marapu spirituality. The concept of salvation in Marapu emphasizes the purity of the soul and obedience to customs, while in Catholicism it is based on faith in Jesus Christ. Although theologically different, openness and mutual appreciation were found between Marapu and Catholic Church adherents, including in joint practices at religious celebrations. In conclusion, the religious practices of the Ramadana community show a dynamic dialogue and integration of faith. The recommendations of this study encourage the Church and local communities to continue to build interreligious dialogue and appreciate cultural richness as part of inclusive and contextual faith proclamation.
