Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Emotional Regulation in Children with Autism: Enhancing Mothers’ Roles in Islamic Special Needs Education
Abstract
This study discusses the urgency of the mother’s role in implementing the Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) method to advance emotional intelligence of children with autism at home. Mothers are the primary figures in nurturing children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). A mother’s sense of gratitude influences how she understands, responds to, and accompanies her child on a daily basis. Support from the mother plays a pivotal role for success of the child’s therapy, as she creates a safe and loving environment. Active and consistent involvement of the mother can also make interventions more effective. This study employs a literature review (library research) method by analyzing range of written references, including books, journals, and research papers, and articles. This method was selected to obtain a comprehensive understanding of the mother’s role in implementing ABA at home. The results show that mothers act as coordinators, implementers, and primary companions in ABA. They manage therapy schedules, apply ABA strategies in daily activities, and provide emotional support. Consistency in applying ABA is believed to increase the effectiveness of therapy. Some ABA techniques that can be applied at home include positive reinforcement, the use of visual aids, social stories, role-playing, and creating a supportive environment. Positive reinforcement can involve praise or small rewards when the child demonstrates the intended behavior. In conclusion, the mother’s role in applying ABA at home significantly affects the growth of emotional intelligence in children with autism. Consistent and appropriate maternal involvement helps the child understand, manage, and express emotions better. Active participation of the mother becomes the key to the effectiveness of therapy while simultaneously establishing a solid basis for enhancing children’s emotional and social skills with autism.
