Abstract

Health education in elementary schools is an effective strategy to increase students’ awareness of the importance of clean and healthy living behavior. This study aims to improve students’ knowledge of waste management as part of implementing Islamic values regarding cleanliness. The research was conducted at SDN 2 Sidem Village, Gondang District, Tulungagung Regency, using a qualitative approach. The method involved direct health counseling for students in grades 1 to 3 through lectures, discussions, Q&A sessions, and participatory evaluations. The results showed an increase in students’ understanding of the types of waste, waste sorting, and the environmental impact of improper waste disposal. This activity also helped shape students’ character to care for environmental cleanliness, in line with Islamic teachings that emphasize cleanliness as part of faith. Active participation in discussions and Q&A demonstrated that interactive health education methods are effective in shaping both knowledge and attitudes. The study recommends the continued implementation of similar counseling activities and greater involvement from the school community to establish a sustainable culture of cleanliness and health within the school environment.
