Pelatihan Perawatan Jenazah Berbasis Participatory Training: Penguatan Fikih Sosial dan Kompetensi Mahasiswa Pesantren
Participatory Training–Based Funeral Rites Management: Strengthening Social Fiqh and Pesantren Students’ Competencies
Abstract
This community service program aims to strengthen social fiqh understanding and improve the practical competencies of pesantren students in managing Islamic funeral rites (tajhīz al-mayyit). The program was implemented at Darul Hafidhin Islamic Boarding School, Surabaya, using a participatory training approach that integrates fiqh theory, group discussions, demonstrations, and hands-on simulations. The training covered ethical guidance in dealing with the dying (sakaratul maut) and practical procedures of washing, shrouding, praying for, and burying the deceased in accordance with Islamic law and contextual social conditions. Participants consisted of active pesantren students prepared as future da‘wah cadres and community facilitators. The results indicate a significant improvement in students’ understanding of funeral jurisprudence, technical skills, confidence, and ethical sensitivity in handling funeral rites. Beyond skill enhancement, this program contributes theoretically to the development of social fiqh by contextualizing classical jurisprudence into practical community needs, and practically to strengthening religious services within the community. The activity fosters social responsibility among students and prepares them to actively serve society based on Islamic values.
