(STUDI ATAS METODE PEMBACAAN TEKS NASR HAMID ABU ZAYD)

Abstract

The controversy about the interpretation of missoginist texts and gender biases burst and became a concern of Muslim academics. The swift flow of cultural globalization, causing feminism movements or notions of gender equality in the West spread rapidly throughout the world, including to Indonesia and other Muslim worlds. As in the face of other products of Western thought, Muslims are insecure and not one word in dealing with this understanding. Those who are pro and support this understanding assume that this understanding is in line with the maqasid al-shariah in order to create justice and equality between humans, while religious texts that are patterned as a missoginis and gender bias must be understood within the general framework of Islamic teachings. In this framework they gave birth to various new approaches in reading texts to be in line with the times and gender equality. While those who are contradictory argue that this understanding is contrary to the texts of the surah in the Qur'an and the Hadith, and it is a product of Western culture that is incompatible with the culture of Muslims. Furthermore, they accuse that gender mainstreaming in Islamic studies is a form of conspiracy against Islam and Muslims. Despite the controversy, this article seeks to explore gender perspectives in the thinking of one of the leading Muslim feminists, Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd. Abu Zayd's Gender Perspective is the fruit of the project's contextual reading method which he developed in reading verses of gender bias, especially in terms of polygamy, inheritance, genitalia and qawamah.
