Representing Peace in the Songs "Palestīna Bilādī" and "We Will Not Go Down": Study of Comparative Literature
Representasi Perdamaian dalam Lagu “Palestīna Bilādī” dan “We Will Not Go Down”: Studi Komparasi Sastra [تمثيل السلام في الأغنيتين دراسة الأدب المقارن)]
Abstract
Purpose - This study aims to find the intertextual relationship between the song "Palestīna Bilādī" by Ajlān Thabet and the song "We Will Not Go Down" by Michael Heart, and to find the differences between the two in representing the peace that is the hope of the Palestinian people.
Design/methodology/approach - by using qualitative research methods and Julia Kristeva's intertextual approach, the researcher will compare the two songs. The data collection techniques used include the technique of listening to the involved conversation, which is done by seeking information from the songwriter through his social media, as well as the technique of listening to the free involved conversation with the technique of note-taking as a follow-up technique. The researcher will listen to both songs and conduct an analysis with the help of other secondary data such as books and related articles.
Findings/results – The results of the study indicate an intertextual relationship between the song "We Will Not Go Down" and the song "Palestīna Bilādī". The relationship is that the first song is a hypogram text, while the second song is a transformation text. The song created by Michael Heart focuses more on describing the suffering experienced by the Palestinian people, and in a very painful situation, they remain alive and continue to fight to achieve independence. Meanwhile, in the song "Palestīna Bilādī” there is a picture of a peaceful life that Palestine will achieve, which emphasizes that the results of the struggle, if accompanied by unity, will lead to victory.
Originality/value - The benefits of this research are to increase the social and political awareness of readers and to prove that every literary work must have a relationship with other literary works. This paper also provides reading contributions for researchers around comparative and intertextual literature.
