Abstract

Kiai Sholihan Noer's communication in forming students' attitude of independence. This research method uses a qualitative approach. In collecting data, this study uses observation techniques, interview techniques and documentation techniques. And in analyzing data, this study uses the analysis stage method. The results of the study indicate that the Power of Kiai in forming an attitude of independence in students through small things first such as discipline and sensitivity of students to activities, regulations, and rules of the Syafa'ah Darussalam Islamic Boarding School. In addition, Kiai also provides activities called NYUPIR and for female students, cooking activities are given, and the kiai also adopts several learning methods from various large Islamic boarding schools in Java. The kiai's communication to students is in the form of top-down communication (instructions) and his delivery style uses various conversations as taught by Islam. Supporting factors include: a conducive environment in Islamic boarding schools, the process of character formation in education, active involvement of students in improving independent abilities, and support provided by the family are considered the main supporting factors. However, there are several obstacles that need to be overcome, such as lack of motivation and interest in learning, lack of connection between learning materials and the development of independence, and the problem of lack of discipline in managing time.
