Abstract

Digitalization and social media have brought about changes in social reality. This study highlights online communication activities, especially those related to social construction and patriarchy that cause gender inequality. Feminist groups are pioneers in fighting for gender equality, including through gender communication practices in digital spaces, as carried out by reformist Muslim women in their struggle. This qualitative research, through a case study of ten informants, shows that reformist Muslim women use Instagram to reconstruct gender narratives in Islam from a postmodern feminist perspective. The content they produce challenges patriarchal norms raises awareness of women's rights and encourages participation and activism through easy-to-understand and interesting presentations, which significantly impact their followers.
