Abstract

Purpose - This research seeks to explore the reading comprehension strategies employed by students at STAI Nurul Falah in the context of the digital era. It emphasizes identifying the obstacles they encounter and discovering effective approaches to improve their comprehension abilities.

Design/methodology/approach - This research utilized a mixed-methods approach by combining quantitative data from surveys and comprehension assessments with qualitative insights obtained through semi-structured interviews. This comprehensive method enabled a detailed understanding of students' reading habits and the challenges they face with digital texts.

Findings/results - The results indicated that while students generally preferred digital reading materials, they often struggled with distractions and found it difficult to grasp complex information. Active reading strategies, such as summarizing and using graphic organizers, proved effective in improving their comprehension. However, many students expressed a need for more structured support to strengthen these skills.

Originality/value - This research adds to the limited body of research on reading comprehension strategies within Islamic higher education institutions, providing practical insights into effectively incorporating digital reading into the curriculum to enhance students' academic achievement.
